Here are some FAQs for Physical Therapy

If you’re experiencing chronic pain, back pain, joint pains, or other forms of pain and injuries, we encourage you to contact our physical therapists and discuss your options. What is physical therapy?

Physical therapy, also known as physiotherapy or physical rehab, is a rehabilitative treatment that improves your overall wellness, muscle strength, spinal health, and joint flexibility to reduce pain and facilitate healing. Physical therapy involves performing several personalized exercises and stretches in a specific order under your therapist’s guidance. The exercises may include bodyweight or light dumbbells and plates.

How can physical therapy help me?

Physical therapy helps everyone, regardless of their current health. It increases the strength in your weakened joints and muscles, improves blood circulation, and improves overall flexibility and mobility. Physical therapy can help you overcome chronic pain and injuries, supporting other interventional and regenerative treatments. It’s especially suitable for those who have trouble climbing the stairs, walking, or performing other daily activities due to pain.

Which conditions does physical therapy treat?

Physical therapy treats a wide range of conditions, such as neck and shoulder pain, lower and upper back pain, knee and elbow pain, hip pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, runner’s knee, golfer’s elbow, muscle strains and sprains, tendonitis, bursitis, pulled muscles, torn ligaments, slipped discs, spinal conditions, arthritic pains, and most other concerns related to the musculoskeletal system. If you have any pain or injuries related to the spine, muscles, ligaments, tendons, bones, joints, or other surrounding connective tissues, physical therapy can probably help you.

What are the side effects of physical therapy?

Physical therapy is a holistic and comprehensive solution to treat chronic pain and injuries. It doesn’t have any long-term side effects or complications. However, it’s normal for individuals to experience pain, discomfort, and soreness during or after the physical therapy session. However, you must persist and continue your physical therapy despite the pain because it’s necessary to improve your muscle and spinal strength. As your muscles and joints improve, the physical therapy sessions will become easier to tolerate.

How long do I need physical therapy to recover completely?

Everyone is unique, and everyone goes through a unique physical therapy journey. The length of your physical therapy will depend on your overall health and underlying conditions. Instead of setting an end-date for your physical therapy, we set milestones and goals that indicate your progress. It’s important to focus on your body’s progress rather than an arbitrary timeline. Your physical therapist will set the goals during your initial assessment.

Do I need any additional therapies besides physical therapy?

Physical therapy often goes hand-in-hand with other treatments and therapies, such as acupuncture, chiropractic care, massage therapy, nutrition counseling, and regenerative medicine. Our physiatrists will curate the ideal treatment plan and recommend suitable therapies based on your specific goals and needs.

Do I need a referral for physical therapy?

You don’t need a referral from your primary doctor for physical therapy. You can simply schedule a consultation with our exceptional physical therapists in Glen Rock, NJ, for your initial evaluation.
